Crafty Science: Grades 1-3
Is your child and Einstein or a Picasso? This is a class for kids who love science and art! Students will use both sides of their brains, and get their hands dirty, as they learn that science is an art, and there is art in science. We will discover how the two connect in nature. From rocks to rockets, and pinecones to polymers, we will have a blast with lab experiments, nature treks and craft projects.
This week-long adventure will focus the intersection of art and science. Participants should bring a refillable water bottle. For their safety, it is important that each student wear comfortable clothing (which may get a bit dirty) and closed toe shoes.
The camp will be held in the Sonderegger Science Center room 420, on the Edgewood College Campus, 1000 Edgewood College Drive, Madison, WI. The Science Center is a K-16 building that serves science students of all ages.
June 26-30, 2017, 9am-12pm daily. A mid-morning snack will be provided. If you child has particular dietary needs please pack an appropriate snack for them.
The camp leaders will be Bob Shannon (Edgewood High School Science Teacher) and Kate Shannon (Spanish Teacher, Bi-Lingual Specialist for the Middleton Library and numerous preschools and amateur artist). Both have broad experience with children’s outside-of-school science enrichment programs.
Registration will be first come, first served. To ensure plenty of individual attention the limit for the camp is 12 children. The registration deadline is June 19, 2017
